Clean Up Your Thoughts- Stop the Self-Hate Cycle

It’s time to clean up!

No, not just our diets, but our thoughts.

Most people don’t. Which is why they go about their days full of complaints and worry, constantly second-guess their lives, their relationships, their jobs, and things that may or may not even happen.

But our minds are EXTREMELY POWERFUL– and a lot of the times the things we think about turn into our realities.

Now I could get all super in-depth about the Law of Attraction and The Secret and all of the idealisms and philosophies that really delve deeper into this- but I won’t here. (I do, however encourage you to do some research because I promise you it’s extremely fascinating and life-changing)

Now, think for a second. When was the last time you looked at yourself in the mirror, pinching yourself, thinking- “Ugh, I’m so fat. I’m disgusting.”

Was it today? Yesterday? 5 minutes ago?

Did you know that EVERY SINGLE TIME you do that, you reinforce that idea within yourself?

Now how can you ever expect to see positive changes within your life while telling yourself on a constant basis that you’re the most hideous, disgusting thing that ever lived?

You definitely won’t be very happy.

Now- imagine what would happen to our self-esteem if every time we looked in the mirror we picked out something positive about ourselves instead, and *gasp* SMILED in the mirror!

I guarantee you would start your day on a more positive note.

And this applies to more than just body-positivity- but can be used in your daily life no matter what you’re doing!

I urge you to create a “garbage can” in your mind. A figurative place to dump all negative thoughts as they happen.

I challenge you this- everytime you have a negative thought about ANYTHING- just throw it in the “garbage can”. Just simply tell yourself- “No. I’m not going to allow myself to think this is reality, and you’re going in the garbage!

Then- replace it with a positive one. In fact, repeat the positive thought 5 times in your mind to counteract it.

Here are some examples:

NEGATIVE THOUGHT: “I can’t believe I just ate that. I’m going to remain fat forever.”
POSITIVE THOUGHT: “One bad meal isn’t a big deal. There are plenty more opportunities to make healthy choices that will keep me on my healthy journey! Plus, that was a pretty darn delicious piece of pizza.”

NEGATIVE THOUGHT: “I wish I looked like her. She is perfect.”
POSITIVE THOUGHT: “She’s probably been working for a long time and is at a different point than I am in my fitness journey. Even though I think she is perfect, I’m sure she has her own insecurities and problems, as well. I choose to be the best version of *MYSELF* today instead of comparing myself to others!”

NEGATIVE THOUGHT: “I’m going to be stuck at this dead-end job forever. My life sucks.”
POSITIVE THOUGHT: “This job is only temporary! What is something I can work on today to improve that will get me to my goals? Maybe I’ll skip my nightly TV show today and start that novel I’ve been putting off for forever.”

NEGATIVE THOUGHT: “Everyone’s engaged and I’m still single. I’ll never have a boyfriend.”
POSITIVE THOUGHT: “I’m not settling for mediocrity in my relationships, and that’s fine. The right guy will show up when the timing is right, and in the meantime I’m going to keep being as awesome as possible.”

See? Negative thoughts CAN be reversed. And no, it’s not going to happen overnight. It may take some time if you’re used to thinking negatively 24/7.

And I’m not perfect- I used to suffer through severe anxiety and worrying as well as a horrible body image until I just decided I was sick of it. It’s no way to live! I decided to be happy (because happiness is a DECISION,) think positive thoughts as much as possible and help others do the same.

Thinking positively and eliminating negative thoughts is a conscious process that never ends. It’s a constant action. But the results are amazing if you allow the process to happen.
